In answer to the ever-growing demand for professionals in the health services sector, especially registered nurses' service in public hospitals, elderly homes, community medical and rehabilitation centres, the School of Health Sciences was established in 2010.
Currently the Bachelor of Nursing Programme offered under the School has been solicited under the Government's Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions (SSSDP), students have to apply through JUPAS and will receive a subsidy of $76,800 on annual tuition fees (2021/2022 academic year), paying the net fees of $37,890 for the 2021/2022 year.
The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) Programme is a part-time top-up programme for working adults in the healthcare field who seek to be promoted to frontline management.
In order to prepare competent students who will provide quality patient care and services with love and contributions to the community, the School had invested heavily in providing the best teaching facilities in Hong Kong, which include the following areas:
The first training school in Hong Kong equipped with an Infection Control Training room, which is modelled after the hospital setup during SARS.
The only school providing Ceiling-Mounted Patient Handling System which ensures that the hygiene of patients under rehabilitation will be well taken care of.
The only school that has the largest number (16) of Hi-tech Patient Simulator ($1M HKD each), which simulate different patient's situations that enables students to experience close-to-real-life scenarios presenting patient's physiological reactions.
In addition to the High-Tech Patient Simulator, our school also provides children and pregnant women simulators that students can learn first-hand knowledge and skills of child care and the whole child birth process.
The School has a mandate to help students develop an appropriate value system in pursuring professional careers in medical and health services by equipping them with the up-to-date knowledge as well as competent practice and skills, while striving for academic excellence in teaching and learning. The School is committed to providing students with holistic education by offering a spectrum of health science-related programmes to stimulate students' intellectual growth as well as personal development through formal and informal learning experiences.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) Programme are prepared for academic and career advancement in the healthcare field. The academic qualification equips graduates with essential skills for jobs in the healthcare industry, such as Clinical Research Associate, Regulatory Affairs Executive, Clinical Application Specialist, Medical Representative, Medical Science Liaison Officer, Clinical Service Manager and Medical Affairs Specialist.
The 1st graduation ceremony for the Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) programme was held on 8 June 2019. Around 120 graduates enter the health care sector and become Registered Nurses. The employment rate is 100% in which 97% of the graduates were employed by public and private hospitals.
